The former captain of DGS Dingaan Khumalo played almost flawless golf on Saturday’s final round of the Champ of Champs Competition in Durban as he narrowly won by two strokes at the Mount Edgecombe Course 2. Dingaan shot a 75 net score the previous day at the Durban Country Club followed by the scintillating 67 net score on Saturday at the Mt Edgecombe Country Club on Saturday for a total net score of 142.
The former champion Robert Msweli finished runner-up with an equally impressive 67 net score also on Saturday at My Edgecombe for a two-day total of 144 net score. Third place finish was a tie between Peter Lekhethe and Sandile Ngcobo who both finished on 146 net score.
The Thabo Boshoma Open IPS competition was also won by Dingaan Khumalo on a total of 76 points (35 pts first day and 41 pts second day). Second place finish went to our visitor and a former DGS member Lwazi Dlomo who posted an impressive 38 points on Friday followed by 36 points on Saturday to finish with a total of 74 points. Robert Msweli completed the top three also with a total 74 points (33 & 41 points).
Dingaan wrote the history to win 3 majors, namely Champ of Champs, Thabo Boshoma Open and Club Champ (Lowest Gross). He was the overall winner for the night. Well done Mntungwa!
The maiden Sanlam Dinaledi Friends Golf Challenge which was played as alliance of 6 players each from DGS, EC & DBN, was won by the Eastern Cape contingent comprising of Sturu Pasiya, John Kayula, Lungisa Mbuli (replacing Saki Poswa), Mbulelo Rhenene, Dumisani Balman and Ntsiki Mgqibelo. Congratulations Eastern Cape players.
