Just as the Race to Durban climaxes, so is the race to the summit of the Dinaledi order of merit (OOM). Walter signed for a cool 1 over par in the course rated 1st in the Free State and top 50 in country which catapulted him to the top of our OOM, displacing Tebello Maphike who endured a long day watching Walter blitzes the course. Dinaledi last witnessed such scoring brilliance at Glendower Golf Club from, ironically, Tebello himself.
It comes as no surprise that a man who has amassed 800 points from shooting lowest grosses alone, eventually earned his first 500 points at Vaal De Grace Golf Club. Walter went out with 36 strokes, with the toughest hole on the course, par 4 9th, derailing him with a bogey, before he came in with a 37 to sign for his memorable 73. Coming closest to Walter was the pair of German Makoe and Khehla Ndlovu who both signed for net 68. As the changes on the top of the OOM, the reigning Champ of Champs, Robert Msweli, jetted off to Sun City to participate in the Sanlam Cancer Challenge as part of the perks of being a Dinaledi Champion.
While change happened in position 1 and 2, there was no change in the 3rd position currently occupied by Bheki Mthethwa, after he carded net 74 off a heavy 6 handicap. Dingaan Khumalo (net 70), swapped position with Simon Xaba (net 77) to complete the top 5.
As the points show, there is a lot to play for in our last game at Steyn City on Sunday 8th November.
